Aangezien onze opvang twee weken ging sluiten, leek het ons een leuk idee om een reisje te plannen in deze periode. Mijn ouders vonden het dan ook onmiddellijk een goed idee om een keertje met hun eerste kleinkind mee op reis te gaan. De bestemming werd Sölden, in de Oostenrijkse Alpen, een autovakantie. Na een lange autorit werden we dan ook zeer hartelijk verwelkomd in één van de mooiste hotels waar we ooit al verbleven hebben.
Onze eerste kleine uitstap bracht ons naat het pittoreske Piburger meer, vlakbij het dorpje Ötz. Daarna sloeg helaas het weer een paar dagen om. Eén dagje hiervan hebben we het Swarovski Crystal Worlds museum nabij Innsbruck bezocht. Hoewel het museum zelf wat tegenviel, waren de omliggende tuinen wel zeer mooi, ondanks het overtrokken weertje.
Toen het eindelijk beter weer werd, was het tijd om met de gondel de 3056m hoge Gaislachkogl te bestijgen. Vanop de top van deze berg heb je dan niet alleen zicht op de wijde omgeving, maar evengoed op het nabijgelegen hartvormige meer. Hierna besloten we nog wat gaan te plonsen met onze kapoen in de thermen “Aqua Dome“, waar vooral de fonteintjes tot zijn verbeelding spraken.
Gezien daarna de laatste dag in Sölden voor mijn ouders aangebroken was, besloten we Emieltje een dagje bij hen te laten. Zo konden we ons wagen aan de beklimming van de Stuibenfall. Een mooi onderhouden, maar vrij steil parcours recht omhoog aan de basis van de hoogste waterval van Tirol. Ook aan de bovenkant levert dit prachtige zichten op, terwijl je boven de denderende waterval uittorent.
Na het afscheid van mijn ouders, besloten we een dagje naar Italië te rijden. Via de bekende bergpas Timmelsjoch, met vele prachtige vergezichten, bereikten we Zuid-Tirol. Daar brachten we vervolgens een bezoekje aan de botanische tuinen van het Kasteel van Trauttmansdorff in Merano. Urenlang hebben we daar kunnen wandelen met ons ventje in deze prachtige tuinen die zich op de flank van een berg bevinden, genietend van het Italiaanse zonnetje.
De laatste uitstap in Tirol, was meteen ook het hoogste punt. Via de 2e hoogste verharde weg van Europa, de Ötztaler Gletscherstraße, kwamen we tot op het basisstation op 2830m van de gondel richting Innere Schwarze Schneid. Eénmaal boven met de gondel, op 3260m, werd ons ventje al vrij snel moe in de ijle lucht. Daarom besloot ik alleen verder de vermoeiende klim te maken naar het uitzichtplatform op 3340m, met prachtige zichten over de rondom gelegen bergen en gletsjers.
Helaas was toen ook voor ons de tijd voor afscheid gekomen. Bij het ochtendgloren, vlak na het startschot van de Ötztaler Radmarathon op 100m van het hotel, vertrokken we richting huiswaarts. Onderweg brachten we nog een bezoekje aan het legedarische Schloss Neuschwanstein in Hohenschwangau. Na dit bezoekje was ons ventje helemaal uitgeput, en konden we de lange weg naar huis verder zetten.
